Exclamation Deadlift vs. Powercleans

Which one works what muscles and which one is "better". I don't have enough time to elaborate cause I gotta go somewhere but I'll be back on later tonight.

Powercleans will give you some explosive strength and good size. It also provides some good cardio. I think powercleans are MORE of a upper body lift than deadlifts with the extra movement, catching the bar on your upper chest.

Deadlifts, however, you can go A LOT heavier on providing a greater stimulus for overall back/trap thickness. I would most definately use both. Three to four weeks with powercleans building up to a PR, then switch back to deadlifts. When you really start progressing with deadlifts, you can be sure your powercleans are stronger as well and visa versa.

Thanks 0311. I will probably be doing powercleans and deadlifts throughout the week for the rest of the school year. Since school is starting today and I'm in weightlifting I will have to follow whatever routine my teacher puts me on and last year we did bench, squat, powercleans, and deadlifts throughout the week. Atleast they are all compound movements. I'm looking forward to lifting soo much. I put on some muscle over the summer I can't wait to show off! LOL. People will probably be showing me up. But hey whatever. I just love to lift. Alrighty then thanks.

also to add on. Powercleans requires a lot more technique than deadlifts just because it is a very complex movement. I've seen guys almost knock themselves out or over from doing powercleans wrong.

well i've got powercleans down pretty well. but sometimes i feel kinda dizzy when i do them. but i think it's just because it's such a quick powerful movement. i even get like that from heavy squats but yeah. it seems like powercleans work out my whole body pretty well, mostly upper body though. you dont really see too many people doing them in public gyms though. i'm the only that i know of who does them in the gym i go to.
