Question New guy pushes hard but not sore

Hello All,

This is my first post. I am very new to all this. I am a tiny guy (5 foot 10 and only 62kg) Basically your skin and bone.

I have just bought a home gym (cable weight type), and I am trying to gain some muscle. Bulk up a bit so the wind don't blow me away.

I do about 1 hour of work out every 3 days. I am concentrating on upper body at the moment. I do 5 exercises at 3 sets x 8-12reps. I push hard and feel pumped afterwards.....

But I am not sore the next day. ????

I do train at night and go to sleep within a few hours after.

Please tell me it's not mantatory to be sore....

Cheers.

Like the men said, soreness is certainly not and indication of a good workout. But neither is a pump. As a matter of fact, that statement could explain why you don't get sore...since I would expect SOME soreness first starting out (but don't worry about it). Feeling pumped means to me that you are getting into the realm of metabolic fatique. The senstation that you are "pushing hard" is a function of this and not real indication of relative intensity. It's an oversimplification but.....if I were to take a good amount of time off, with the way I train, I could get sore as hell without ever approaching a pump.

Besides looking over the information we already have here my suggestions are to start training your lower body. Train heavier more often doing only a full body 3 times a week or an upper/lower split.

I guess I should have used the word "motivated" rather than pump.... I defiinately felt tired afterwards and sweaty. I guess I am just worried that because I am not sore the next day, I am not growing. I do have a very high motabilism though. Not sure if that makes any difference, or sleepiing soon after workout.

Nah...don't worry about not being sore. I honestly would not worry about any of that or any "subjective" feelings. If you are progressing that is all that matters. The only problem with sleeping soon afterwards would be if you are not able to eat afterwards which definitely is not a good thing.
