Default newbie training tips

hi I am new here, I am 16 and 5'10 and 161 pounds I would like to get my core more toned for that daily I do 200-400 sit ups and I just started doing the leg raises. Am I doing any thing wrong? Any advise for me? Also I would like to get more defined all over. Also I do at least a half hour of cardio a day. I have been lifting weights for about 2 1/2 to 3 months.

you need your diet down first. remember, diet first, cardio second.

and you don't have to do 200-400 sit ups.

my diet Is I eat no refined sugar, red meat sparingly, all food I eat is extremely low in fat and I eat lots fruit (bananna, apples,etc.). And lots of vegetables. The only sugar I get is the natural sugars in the fruits. And very little dairy just like a little milk with my breakfast and very rarely do I eat cheeses. Anything wrong any recommendations? I would like to get down to about 155 and then bulk up a bit.

That’s an ok start. But I see you want to cut down to 155 then bulk. What is your goal for bulking, i.e. how big do you want to get. Also, you said that you have been lifting for only 3 months. I think you should stop cutting and just start bulking. I guarantee you, you will fill out and get big and drop some fat if you just started. I would read some of the bulking journals and other posts and then by the time June hits you should start cutting.

I do not want to get that big with the sports I play it would not be practical. because I need to be fast and have lots of endurance.

I am a top 20 racquetball player in my state, so in order to beat the others I need to beat them in every aspect: fitness, skills, shot selection, consistency, and power. and I also play tennis

Well, I wouldn't worry about bulking first to 180 and then cutting. It’s easier to cut fat than gain muscle. What I would do is read a lot here and make a plan of action. If you want to be a better athlete you have to diet and train like one. So make up a diet and training regiment and post it and we'll see how much you have picked up and tweak it some.
