Gender: | I'm actually running into the same problem with my training partner. He's been lifting with me on and off for the past 2 yrs during the school year and now he's become dedicated and gotten some noticeable gains. People made comments about my gains and would ask him if I was on any gear and that kinda got him fired up a little to put on muscle like me. But now that people are noticing the difference in him he's alwasy wanting to hit the gym and basically wants to go twice a day... After a couple weeks his constant need to go to the gym and get muscle kinda got annoying, especially since previously I had to drag him to the gym. Surprising what a few compliments will do to your drive. Anyway I had to give him a talk similar to Eric's, I had to make myself clear that going to the gym isn't what we're trying to accomplish. We're going to the gym in order to facilitate constant muscle growth over a long period of time, the gym is merely a means to an end, not the end itself. So anything that fucks with that end result is not a part of my lifestyle (although beer doesn't count because......well its beer so its not going anywhere). So he got a bit pissed at me but then realized that I was right. The point that clued him in was that you don't grow in the gym...so why spend your whole week there and skip out on growing as much as possible? |

Gender: | Thanks hrdgain, I appreciate that. I think what Kane described is just the kind of thing I mean. A lot of it is about self-esteem. If a young guy says, you know, I like working out I'd say that's cool. You like to do it. You enjoy it. Nothing wrong with that. I enjoy it too. Believe me if you're ever married with kids you'll relish it even more! I also enjoy peanut m&m's, doritos, pizza, Dr. Pepper.....none of that is conducive to my goals either Yeah, everybody drinks their ass off in college. And the fact is you can get away with a lot more when you're young. It's college so if you're not flunking out who the hell cares... The trick is when you in a 9 to 5 situation and coming in hung-over or high means your livelihood. At that point either you can put the breaks on or you're one of those unlucky persons who can't stop. |

Gender: | LOL, that made me think about those commercials about pot. They finally made an accurate one. It basically has some potheads sitting on a sofa not doing a damn thing |

If you're going balls to the wall, pushing your body to the limit, then going to the gym on an OFF day should be the absolute last thing on your mind. Shit, when I was doing DC Training or something like Bill Starr's 5x5 hitting the weights only 3 days a week, those other 4 OFF days were a welcome sight! |
