Default Question regarding bodyfat.

I took a month off due to injury during which I ate everything possible. Before that I was at 11% bodyfat and weighed 74 kgs. After that I weighed 76 kgs with the same bodyfat. I started training a week back with proper nutrition and my bodyfat seems to have shot up to 14% with the same weight?

Is my reading incorrect or is there a reasoning to this?

How are you getting your bodyfat reading ?

TALO's Sig:"We only grow when we are recovering.I see it all the time people beating themselves up in the gym and not seeing results. They don't understand that hitting the weights hard is only a small part of growing or even cutting down. "

If you don't look 'fatter' then I wouldn't worry about it. But yes, your reading could have been off.

What was your weight at 14%?

Weight remained the same.

Well, before this I usually used to check it at these machines that we have in the malls here but after this I've ended up buying a weighing machine which shows the bodyfat aswell.

P.S: Yes, I did weigh myself at the same time. And, I don't think I look fatter, trousers still fit me :P

Incorrect reading. No doubt about it.

Those scales and mall things that measure BF are not accurate. You can't measure bodyfat on a weigh scale. Unless someone's using a caliper or an electronic tester, I wouldn't trust it.

Get a bodyfat test done at the gym or some health centre type place. Caliper test or electronic test is good.

Believe it or not, I just can't seem to find the caliper anywhere here.

I have something like this http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/om/fat.html which showed my bodyfat to be 18%. The weight was however the same as per the other readings. What should I do? :S

P.S: Getting it done at a health centre isn't an option because I can't go there every week. The gym that I go to doesn't provide that service.

^^ Why do you need to get it checked so often? The only time I really check my bodyfat is in front of the mirror. If I don't look fat, then what does my bf% matter? That's how I look at it anyway.

I'm not sure how accurate that type of scale is. I know that the professional electric ones that actually hook up electrode 'patches' to your body are fairly accurate. Maybe someone else can chime in on that particular scale.

^^^^Yeah the mirror doesn't lie. Although I guess we could argue as to how accurate our perception is. But still if you are realistic then if you think you look better you look better.

To me the only time bodyfat checking helps is when someone is so overweight they cannot be sure as to whether they are building muscle and losing fat or what....

EricT's Sig:I'm tired of the myth that bb'rs aren't flexible. As a group, they are extremely flexible. They have an amazing ability to bend over, place their heads between their legs, and blow smoke up their own asses.
