| Rank: Bantamweight | well actually working on traps and all that leads to you geting a bigger neck, but if you want something specific some gyms have an actual neck machine you can use. if not you can go to atp straps or another site and get a neck harness. you get it an dit goes around your head and you starp some weight on to it and go to work. if you were to get it, dont go crazy with putting heavy weight on there. its not needed an dyou dont want to mess up your spine. you can get some light weight and do it for a good amount of reps. when i was using mine for a littl ebit i was gonna do it 3 times a wekk, but eric advised that would be a good thing. so do it twice a week and get like 2 or 3 sets front and back an dyou should be cool. if you need the link to apt straps let me know and ill post it |

Gender: | The thing about neck is that I injured my neck pretty bad dong neck work. And since then I've read just how easy it is to permantly screw up your neck with direct work...and fact that I had to learn the hard way. And my neck is PEMRMANTLY screwed. I can't even turn it without having to listen to it grind And the thing is I was being careful. Using light weights, etc...So I'm pretty paranoid about it and if you read up you'll see there are reasons to be and not just based on my own experience. I'd advize doing a LOT less than you think is necessary. And I would try to do it more with you neck static or doing isometrics. So like if you were to use a neck harness don't 'curl' it up and down with your neck but support is with your neck. I don't really know how those things were meant to be used but that's how I'd do it. And read up as much as you can on HOW to do all that. Because once you mess it up it will affect all you lifting. And of course it can be very dangerous to injure you cervical spine. The exercises I have found that I can do safely and that work very well is to do neck bridges. This is basically where you support your weight with your neck. Of course you don't have to start out on the floor. You can start out using a wall (wiht padding) so that you are only supporting a fraction of your weight. It actually is pretty easy, from what I've seen, to get your neck to hypertrophy. But like the other said....just training traps and heavy deadlfits and pulling will make your neck bigger as well. |

| Rank: Bantamweight | as i was reading your post eric i was getting ready to ask about bridges. are you refering to just supporting yrou weight with it? i seen mike tyson donig them one time and he was basically rolling his body around on his neck instead of holding it in one place. is that just something thats more advanced |

Gender: | Yeah that sounds pretty damn advanced. I couldn't do that. I've never seen it or read about it being done but I guess if you have that kind of strength base and control it would be a next step. But I was talking about just one position at a time. I've never done it except from behind and the front. I can't do the front of the floor...that is much harder. I do that against a wall. And then the back I can do on the floor. But I don't do it except about twice a month at most. I think it's the kind of thing your neck needs anyway. I mean, you don't go around lifting weights with your neck so why would you move weights with it in that way? But I have done thing where I'm "lifting" a weight except my neck is tight and it's the body moving up and down...just so the weight can be deloaded between "reps". I don't do any of this a lot though...because of the aforementioned injury I have to take it very slow. |
