That answers your own question. You stayed away from heavy compounds, and you don't seem to gain weight easily. So...Do heavy compounds, and you'll put on weight so long as you have your diet in line.

would this work?
Absolutely. Just three nonconsecutive days. Any days that adhere to the "1 ON, 1 OFF, 1 ON, 1 OFF, 1 ON, 2 OFF"

Yeah....You cannot be afraid of the weights. You cannot be tentative. If you learn the big compounds properly using weight you can handle they will make you or break you. Look at it this way: most of the big compounds are natural movements. They come closer to mimicking movements that you would do in everyday life, i.e. the instinctual most efficient way to get a job done, so there's nothing to be afraid of. But if you are afraid and tentative that is a good way to get injured. See what I mean?

No one is saying that the compound lifts have to be big. You don't need to start off deadlifing 350 lbs or benching 250.

I you want to put on weight: eat!

There is a sticky:

What a Bodybuilder Eats

Read that, and it'll help you put on some pounds.

Remember: you grow OUT of the gym, not IN the gym. So a lot of it has to do with rest and diet.

Yes that would work. Like everyone else said. Stick with the full body workouts and eat a lot of food and you will gain muscle. I've only been lifting a little over a year now and for like the first 6 months or so i was kinda doing a split routine high volume low weight because I wasn't too strong and I got stronger but in the past 6 months or so I have been doing full body workouts and I have gained a lot of muscle and strength. My bench, squat, deadlift, and powercleans have jumped and I am just a whole lot stronger and bigger. The routine that 0311 listed would be very good for you to use. He gave me a similar one and I have been on it for around a month and I have already gained mass and strength. It would be real beneficial for you to give it a try for around a month or so and then sit down and look at you progress. Alright like I said I haven't been lifting for long but I know full body workouts with heavy weights work.

kurtjohnson's Sig:385X1 Deadlift
275X1 A2G
215X1 Bench
177X1 Cleans

5'9" @ approx. 172lbs

Goal...Routine of lifting Consistently...185-190+lbs lean
