Default 20 rep squat

Has anyone one this site tried the 20 rep squat? I used it for four weeks and gained alot on my squat. I went from doing 205 for 5x5 to doing 240 for 5x5. What I did for four weeks was on Mon. I would 20 rep squat and on Thu. I would do 3x8 squat light weight. I also gained a good amount of size on my legs.

I've done them in DC workouts but I've never heard of someone gaining strength from a 20 rep and 3x8's of "light weight squats". I would have to see more info on your workout program with the 20 repper and if you just did 5x5 of squat's or did you mean the single or dual factor 5x5 workouts, to under stand how one has put on 40lbs. to their squat and how long did it take?

well for my 5x5 squat i only squat on monday and thursday. On monday i do 5x5 same weight each set and on thursday i do 5x5 with 90% of monday same weight each set. And on my 20 rep squats and 3x8 i did 20 reps on Monday and 3x8 on Thursday. Before i started doing 20 rep squats for four weeks the most i could do for 5x5 was 205 and then after four weeks i got up 240 for 5x5. thats all i did and i gained strenght.

So you're not doing single or dual factor ?

When did you start doing squats? Only reason I'm asking is your squat weight starting out, 205, is very low compared to your weight which is 190ish. Which would leave me to think that this is just a gain you would get from starting to use squats in your routines.
Also you've stated in a different thread that you can bench 305. Which would also make me think that you just stated doing squats since your bench is so much more than your squat.

^^^^There are more than two 5x5 routines in the world .

Sounds like his program is an intermediate/advanced intermediate routine. BTW, simmons, 90% is a little high on Thursday. If your going to go that heavy you may as well go all out and just load it a la "advanced 5x5. Although I have no clue as to what you're doing in your whole routine.

I agree that your squat gains sound like "newbie squat gains" but if the 20 reppers helped then good deal. I think whether you are able to realize significant strength gains out of it simply relates to where you are in your training.

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.

yeah i have only been squating for about 3 1/2 months. i started out doing my squats at around 160lbs for 5x5. so that could be why i gained that much. and i am doing a2g squats. yeah my bench is alot better than my squat, i am up to 320 on bench now. and i am about to start dead lifting so i hope that will help my squat go up some. oh and about the 20 reps, my roomate plays college football and they work out all year long but during the christmas break he did the 20 reps also and he went up 25 pounds on his squat max and he is not new to squating. if yall want i will put my entire workout on here so yall can help me get things right. any advise is welcome
