Default 20 rep squats

Just wondering if anyone else has tried 20 rep squats? Ive recently included them in my routine, one day ill do 20 reps n the next time i do squats i do heavy 8 reps. Any of you guys tried them? If so what'd you think?

I'm liking them so far, it's a different sorta burn then doing heavy squats

Honestly, they are not to be recommended. You can't possible stay focussed 20 reps at a stretch doing squats. Execution will suffer.

20 rep squats suck. Overhyped for sure.

I wouldn't mind trying that old school 20rep squat routine, even if it was only once, I probably will some time

If you can maintain quality during a 20 repper than I'm afraid you may be missing the point of the "20 rep squat". It's not doing 20 reps at your 20 rep maximum, it's more like 20 reps at your 8 to 10 rep maximum.

They are called "breathing squats" in the old-school lingo after the breaks you take for breath. This is post-failure training and I do not buy that anyone can maintain "perfect form" doing that.

It ain't about form by a long shot.

The whole point is that you were supposed to stop at rep 8, lol, but instead you keep going to 20 during the same set. So to stop during a 20 repper before form breaks down..well, that's a day late and a dollar short.

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.

"In fact, old-timers sometimes called them "breathing squats". By the time you get to the last few agonizing reps, you will be doing more breathing than squatting. One of the reasons so much growth is stimulated on this program is that the muscles of the upper body are constantly working to support the weight and to fill the lungs with air. Take as many deep breaths as necessary between reps."

I think the 20 rep squats your reffering to are the type people here are reffering to?
