After the Bill Star 5x5?

I've been following the intermediate 5x5 program found on Madcow's site for about 9 weeks now. I don't know how much more I have left in me, I will definitely go for all it's worth. I'm happy to report that I have gained a significant amount of strength, and for the first time, feel very comfortable with barbell exercises. I plan on doing this routine again in the future.

I'm looking for another proven routine that will help me get some results. My goal right now is to decrease my bodyfat while maintaining as much muscle as possible. I'm currently at about 21-22% bf.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance!

You could try an upper lower. What are your maxes right now?

homerj742 03-09-2009 09:17 AM

These are all 5 Rep Maxes in lbs:

Squat - 155 + bar (45lbs?)
Bench - 130 + bar
Row - 130 + bar

Deadlift - 250 + Bar
Military Press - 65 + bar

I apologize, I was never sure how heavy the bar was, so I tracked my progress with how much weight I put on the bars. Thank you for you help!

You should continue with the program for 2 more months. Reset the weights a bit and restart.

Really? Even while on a caloric deficit? I was hoping to return to this while on a bulk towards the end of the year, but I'm definitely open to continuing the program and simply resetting the weights back a bit.

How much do you weigh?

homerj742 03-09-2009 11:33 AM

5''10
170 lbs
22% Bodyfat (I really want to decrease the body fat before clean bulking).

_Wolf_ 03-09-2009 12:05 PM

You don't need to cut at 170 lbs @ 5'10. That's just ridiculous.

homerj742 03-09-2009 12:07 PM

What about the 22% bodyfat? Or should I not worry about that?

_Wolf_ 03-09-2009 01:19 PM

You don't need to worry about that.

Do yourself a favor and spend $70 and buy Leigh Peele's diet books. The link is in my sig. I guarantee with these small changes in your lifestyle you'll lose like 10 lbs in no time.
