With a pronated grip, not a supinated grip. I imagine he's saying that cleans aren't a biceps exercise.

Back of the hands should be facing up.

This is the basic clean:

That should give you an idea of what a clean is and notice the end result is a front squat position. You do not have to do a full clean like that. You can deadlift the bar up to the waist and then do a hang power clean...which means you don't have to go so very low in the squat portion. As you can see it is not just "curling" the weight up and there is not much biceps in it...

You are accelerating the weight up using a violent hip extension and then getting underneath and "catching" or "recieveing" the bar.

You don't have to get really super good at cleans to do this unless your purpose, of course, is to get really super good at cleans. But you need to adhere to basic good safe form.
