Uhm I went online to these body fat calculators all im sure are off so I was wondering if any of you guys new the formula used to determine body fat%.

My big corperate gym has a type of hand held that you grip and it tells you your percentage. It was spot on for me and my friends. I still don't know how it could tell just by my heart rate of something. The only PROVEN is calipers IMO.

Also, if you are trying to gain muscle mass then this whole topic should be a distant afterthought in your head. It's pretty much one or the other in regards to faster noticible results. For instance, you could be gaining muscle with your dietary intake and everything is running smooth, but if you start worrying about fat accumulation then you'll sacrifice some gains.

both the scales and the handhelds run a low level electric current through your body. depending on the resistance the current subjected it, it gives an estimate on bodyfat. This is because current travels through fat differently then it does through other tissues.

you will find if you use one of these devices, they can be skewed by many different things. especially the amount of water you are retaining, and the amount of moisture on yoru skin.
