Cardio is fine, but you want to make sure your calories are high if your trying to gain weight. Of course doing cardio it will take longer to put on weight since your burning calories, but if you do it proper (diet) and take enough you can put on good muscle while keeping off the fat.

what about doing the elliptical with increasing intensity....it's more of a leg workout for me than it is cardio....heart definitely gets going....but so does the legs.

and i do the pre/post workout shake with cardio....

Cardio is fine so long as it doesn't interfere with your recovery. Doing a lot of squatting translates to limiting your cardio to LOW IMPACT, long duration. So running is OUT, elliptical, biking, or walking is IN.

What are your current stats/experience. You happened to pick the most advanced 5 x 5 programming.

Cardio while gaining weight (muscle) is fine as long as your diet is good and you make sure to build in recovery time into your regimen. 311 asked a good question about your experience level as the 5x5 you listed is advanced and you do not want to overdo it too soon. Good luck on meeting your goals. :weights:
