Exclamation Going thru the dont's

Need help fellow weight lifters. I am going thru that stage where I have to beat myself to go to the gym 3 or 4 times/week. On days I do chests and arms I look forward to going but shoulders and back days I have gotten lazy. I think part of it is I don't really like some of the lifts for these body parts.

If you had to pick 3 or 4 lifts to do for shoulders and back what would it be? Which do you consider the bests to increase in size. Not real interested in strength but mass, I want to improve my look. I am 33 and weigh 194lbs and am 6' tall.

Need incouragement to carry on!!!!

I love low rows for back thickness...move huge amount of weight and gets the ego lifted. Follow up with pullups or pulldowns for width. For shoulders I just get into militaries...nothing like some good shoulder pain to get you pumped. Finish off with upright rows and shrugs. Once again...huge weight with shrugs gets the ego fully inflated. My shoulders hate me for two days after that and there's no way I can look over my shoulder to see if there's an enemy back there...hurts less to just take the in the back.
These are nothing new...just always loved good compound movements and the resulting pain. Oh yeah...don't forget the deadlifts...lower back needs love too.

What always motivates me is the notion that my body won't be as attractive to me or anyone else if I don't go. Who says low self-esteem is good for nothing? If that doesn't work maybe you should just go work out. My problem is with lower body-I don't really like to do it and my gains aren't so noticeable as upper body so I can't really give advice on the other part of your post.

Shoulders: Standing military presses, Arnies, lateral raises, deadlifts.

Back: pull/chin ups, bent over row, dead lift

For everything: squats!

hi,

i was jsut looking thru and saw this post..

well, i noe i am a newbie (just 1.5 years) but, tell u what:

when i started, my bodyfat% was 34.3% with a weight of 160lbs on a 5ft 7" frame. now, my body fat % is 18, with a weight of 160 lbs on a 5 ft. 8" frame. am 17 years old.

i bench press 160 lbs, deadlift 200 lbs and squat 160 lbs.

now, this is the important thing which i wanna say.... dont ignore ur body parts.. i did.. so i noe.. at one time the only muscles which used to be great to workout on for me were chest and bicep... i used to train them thrice a week... so i only eneded up getting nowehere... dont make the same mistake i did...

Absoutely Ashim.

If I was inclined to focus more on one or two bodyparts, all things being equal, it would be the ones I hate to do the most.

For like a split second there I thought you were talking to me, Brad :eek: .

Brad's right, guys. I get a little tired of having to stop and figure out what the heck stuff like noe means. And regular punctuation is pretty much essential in any prolonged written communication. Not all of us grew up doing chat anyway.

It's quicker for you but slower for us. Which is a lot like saying your time is more important ;) .

I read an article in the newspaper about this. A Miss Manners type of thing. There are just no well established rules of ettiquette about this stuff. But the article pretty much came to the conclusion that chat is for chat, and not for forums and personal e-mails. Which I agree with.
