Default hand fatigue

I don't want to sound like a wussy, but...

I am working out with dumbbells and after the squats but no later than the deadlifts my hands are killing me from holding on to the dumbbells.

Any advise? Is this normal?

one trick I learned from a powerlifter is plate grabs/squeezes. At the end of any workout, take two 10 lbs plates, put them together, and grab the edge for a 30 second count if you can. Do this like 2-3 times a week because just like any workout you can over do it.

I've done something similar with 3 5lb plates. Put the 3 together and squeeze them so that the middle one doesn't fall out. Once it falls out its game over. Plus my gym has some wierd plates now and the 10lber's are small diameter but really thick, they're not the usual iron plates.

Plate pinches are good for grip work. I use them as well For further info on this kind of thing go to http://www.dieselcrew.com and you will find all the grip info you could want.

In this case it sounds like your hands are actually sore already from your workout so I would advize not starting with plate pinches unless you are assured of plenty of time to recover (such as the weekend) because you are lible to just get you hands so sore you can't hold onto anything. And start light as you can and don't necessarily go for 30 seconds. Like Dave said you can overwork you hands but not only that but you can make matters worse by being too aggressive when you have bad hands. A simple hold may be better for you to start with...such as holding loaded dumbells for time...

Read up on grip work more.

The hands can be sort of a mirror of overtraining as well.

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.

is it your grip that's failing or do your hands just plain hurt?
