Hey-new member, asking a question.
Hey you all, I'm 16 years old and I've been lifting for about a year or so; every 3 mounths, then I quit for a few, but the last 4 mounths I've been lifting everyday, and hard. But I have a question, I lift about 2 hours every day.....I do about 12 lifts in a time-space of two hours then I wait a hour and run.......
My older brother says that the way I'm lifting is wrong, I'm about 220 and pushing hard at 240 or so in bench.....other then that, I have'nt recorded my max-outs on other lifts. I just want some imput on how long should I be lifting, and should I work everything every day?

Since u are clean, I am assuming, u shouldnt lift two hours. Anything more than one hour will only hurt u. Also space out ur cardio and lifting about 6 hrs apart, that way u can do both in full strength and intensity. Ur brother is right.
2 hours is a long time to be lifting! do u constantly work out during that two hour period or do u spot someone, socialize, or go to many other machines two hours sounds like alot of time in the gym

Also, I know how to lift, and ect., I have only taken a semester of lifting last year in my Freshman year, but my Sophmore year I got a weight lifting machine, technicly a bench, where I can do some leg extensions, the bench moves so I can do incline, millitary, and a arm lifting thing for my shoulders.
Soon I should have a job, should I stay at home and lift? Or is it good for me to get a membership at a Golds Gym? Golds is about a 5 min walk from my home. Can any one link a site where teens should go to for lifting tips, correct procedures in lifting, ect., thanks for your time.
a golds gym 5 minutes walking away from the house thats great becauses there never an excuse not to train. i would definatly take advantage of that and get a membership there, it will save u alot of money also compared to buying everything in your house
Heh, I barely buy new weights for lifting, but yes, I've been wanting to get more dumbells from weight of 15-50 pounds, and that would cost me about 150$ or so. Wanted 2 15 pound ones, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50......yea, but if I go to Golds Gym, cost would be lower. I'm going go take a walk there this weekend to see the price on joining, should be about 20$ a mounth or so I'm guessing. But yea, thanks for the info....
I usally eat normal, 2 eggs or 3 in the mourning, or a bowl of wheaties before school, then a sandwitch with a glass of water there, or a slice of pizza, hambiger, I give the tray of fries to a friend.....or a burrito, but I always get a glass of water with my lunch. Or eat two apples if I have no money for lunch. Then I eat a apple after school, and what ever I have to eat about at 6pm, a hour or so after I'm done lifting. I add that I eat tuna/other things high in protein too for dinner. Is this a good eating habit? Was thinking of doing Atkins to lose some of my other areas where I need to lose. Can any of you put some input on this? Thanks for your time.
i think 2 or 3 eggs in the morning is bad unless your training alot. i think that the american heart assosiation only recommends 1 a day. slice of pizza, hamburger :eek: work on eliminating the pizza and hamburgers, drink some more water try to shoot for a gallon a day.
No need to ever max out in my opinion. Keep a journal and record what weight you use on every lift and how many reps per set. Your goal in the gym should either increase the reps with the same weight, and also to start adding weight. Also, for 12 sets (if I read it right) it should take you no more than an hour. Anything past that, and your body will start eating your muscles for fuel. In other words, it'll be counterproductive.
2hrs is WAAY too long to be in the gym. when you are in there, it should be short and INTENSE. otherwise you are just going through the motions.
think of it this way... if you were a runner, would you wanna look like a marathon runner or a sprinter? marathon runners are ethiopian look mofos that look frail and brittle. sprinters, look lean, muscular, healthy. what is the difference between the two? well, one trains for long periods of time, to run for long periods of time. one trains short/intense bursts to be quick and powerful.
which do you wanna look like?
get in there, do your lifts heavy and intense and get home and eat. you grow while recovering, not while you are lifting...
