Home gym guys
For those with home gyms.... well just a bench and some weights, How do you add more weight to your bench without a spotter. I have one, but he is not really being consistent with coming to my house to train (he is whipped by the ball and chain) I need to get above what I am benching now but can't seem to get in a good work out because of the lack of a spotter. Going to a gym is out of the question. The only other alternative is a nautilus weight system. This however doesn't feel quite like a normal bench press because I am sitting up and pushing the weight out and not up. Same goes for the incline bench (my really weak point) I need some suggestions on how to get around my predicament.
Thank you gentlemen for any help with my problem. |
my bench has some safety bars....i just use them...
gotta know your limits too :) |
Probably not what you want to hear, just get a rack. You can then Bench, squat, shoulder press, rack pull.....in somewhat compleat safety.
I bought mine off of craigskist for like $50.00 |
Thank you gentlemen, Pity if you could post some pics of your safety bars that would be awsome.

There are lots of options, but first... do you own or rent?
The easiest may be to build some self spotting stands from lumber. |
You'll want something that is very strong. Something that can withstand the force of whatever weight you are using in a static situation as well as if you were to drop it (shit happen might as well be safe). It should be just as high as your chest when puffed up/arched back if you have to put the weight down you can exhale and unarch and get out from under the bar.
That would be my take on it. IronWorker |
You could always have a welder make you something like this...

For now I rent, but I just got a new job that starts tomorrow so hopefully a house will be on the horizon. One that I can build a gym in (as already I told the wife).
