Agreed. Thats what I do. Take the first weight you do as a warmup and the weight that is the max that you are going to attemp and basically break it into increments. (the first couple increments can be a bit larger) As you finish each increment the number of reps should be coming down until you are in the actual "acclimation" part of it where you should only be hitting singles. I'm going to say you shouldn't be hitting more than singles above somewhere around 80%.

Are you saying you shouldn't be doing singles above 80% or shouldn't be doing singles below 80%?

Since we're explaining what each other meant, I'll explain further. He said approximately 80%. That means ball park.

I wouldn't do a triple above 80% or a double above 90% personally. When prepping for a PR, I set up for my last few singles (acclimation) the same way as I would for a max attempt.

Canadians...
(Sorry, I have to stick with my fellow American. I'm going to go sing the Star-Spangled Banner now.)

I do more warm-up sets when doing 3x3 or 5x5 work sets but never 10. I suppose that if you limit warm-up set increases to 50lb at most, then you could easily end up with 10 warm-up sets when lifting 400+ lbs.

I don't know why I was thinking I should minimize warm-ups sets for a 1RM PR attempt but I will do different next time.
