Immediate weight gain??

Hey guys, I just started at this 3 days ago and I've been hitting it pretty hard every day. (Until tonight, every muscle in my body hurts!!) For the last 3 months or so, I've weighed 150 lbs on the dot. I weighed myself this morning and I weigh 155 lbs now. I'm taking creatine and whey protein. My question: why have I suddenly gained 5 lbs? I know damn well I haven't gained any muscle in 3 days lol. Does the sudden exercise cause the muscles to retain water maybe? I'm not worried about gaining the weight or anything like that as I'm trying to bulk up, I'm just more curious as to why this happens as I like to learn as I go with new things. Any help appreciated.

If you are taking creatine it does hold extra water. You should also be drinking more water than usual to stay hydrated because you need more water since your body is holding more than usual. The sudden weight gain is normal for starting creatine and most likely that is what the extra weight is. Creatine is very good and will help in muscle mass growth but not in a few days time.

Like coop said, it is most likely fluid/water. Any rapid changes in weight are going to involve water/glycogen because your body cannot synthesis new muscle tissue that quickly. Just enjoy the boost and keep training hard--maybe you are doing something right.

definitely water weight bro. you should be able to feel, maybe even see your muscles swell excessively during intense workouts, some more-so than others of course.
very important to stay hydrated when supplementing with creatine. dehydration causes all kinds of problems, all non-conducive to your training.
in about 4 -6 weeks you can expect to have gained around 10 - 15 lbs, assuming you have a solid workout and your diet is sufficient in calories and protein that is.
i have a few tips for mass gain on the 'Before You Get Started' page of the website below if you're interested
