Need Cardio but have Asthma

I've been lift steadily for the last two months. I'm getting some great results but I'm not losing weight like I want to. I try to run but I have asthma pretty bad and it's struggle to do .5 mile. Is there any other cardio routines that are effective but have a lower impact? Is that an oxymoron?

what do you take for your asthma?

I reccomend you talk with your doctor and get medical advice.

when i used to run...i always just used my albuterol inhaler before and after...worked ok for you....my asthma was never super severe though...it could be if i didn't catch it in time :)

Yeah, my wife was told to just use here inhaler a bit before she exercised...a short acting one, albuterol like pity said I guess. But your really really should ask your doctor about it lie J-Rock said and it may be he/she prefers you use a certain type of inhaler before. Also try to breath through you nose as much as possible.

I have also read, but I don't know if it's true, that asthmatics may do better with humid things like indoor pools. I have bad lungs from scarring on the lungs so it's the opposite for me.

I currently take Advair 250mg (Steroid) twice a day and Albuterol as needed. I'm doing quite well now, but if I do not take the steroids I get pretty bad. I've asked plenty of doctors about exercise and they all say to basically be careful when testing my limits.

albuterol is fast acting...so keep it handy when testing yourself :)

I hear ya there. I've had plenty of trips to the E.R. You hear that alot of people grow out of asthma but being that I'm now 29 I don't know if that will apply to me. It sucks!

i only had to hit the ER once and i was too young to remember...i'm about the same age and it's not going anywhere...getting worse perhaps...but not better :)

good luck man.
