Question online training programs

Hi guys,

I've been looking at some of the online trainingprograms that are advertised around the place and I'm thinking of getting one to get me started with the best info.

I'm 32, about 110kg (not sure what that is in lbs, sorry), and I've not been training for about 5 years.

I used to be fairly fit in "the ol' days" when I was early 20's etc... then I got into partys, drinking, smoking etc... not so good for the figure if ya know what I mean.

Anyway, I'm not worried too much about the hard work, but I certainly don't want to be doing any more than I need to! This means time, and learning curve.

I know there's work to do. I just want to get started right. BTW, I don't smoke or drink any more. I've cleaned up my act in preparation for this.

There are heaps of programs around, there's lots of free information too, but I'm just not sure what's right and what's wrong.

I used to just work like a bastard boxing, kickboxing, lifting heavy things and running on a squash court to keep fit. It worked, but it was a complete lifestyle. I was a teenager with free time! haha!

Anyway, does anyone have any experience with the following programs:

Burn the Fat - Feed the Muscle
The Truth about Building Muscle

no nonsense muscle building
muscle gaining secrets

There are many others, and they're probably all a load of crap. I'm a bit of a skeptic sometimes but that's probably a good thing.

I figure this is probably a better place to ask than anywhere else.

Can anyone throw some recommendations my way? links?

Or just tell me to pull my finger out and get to work.

Cheers,

Scrampy

Here's some advice: Don't buy a workout program. You have no idea what you're getting when you buy one. Everyone is different and everyone has different goals, so no one workout will work for everyone. What are your goals by the way? Try looking at the workout list in the training forum. Find something that you think will work for you and then you can maybe customize it a tiny bit if you need, but most likely you'll be able to just start the program as is.

I wouldn't recommend a single one of those workouts that you posted anyway.

I kinda thought I'd get a similar reply. I appreciate your help.

So the best way to get started will be to get started. and the best way to do that is to go get an established program, but not buy one lol, and get on with it.

I'm just looking for the workout list now. There's just so much stuff there. I can see myself sitting there reading for days before I actually do something lol.

Anyway, I'll do my homework and get on with it. No shortcuts eh.

Oh yeah, goals:

I need to shred some body fat. I've got a gut and some nasty "love" handles to loose.

I want to be able to see my abs again! haha

I want to get rid of the bitch tits (they're not too bad actually... I get compliments all the time lol)

I want my stamina back.

I want to feel strong, real strong like I cannot be moved and people walk around me because they're scared strong.

I want presence. (and presents!)

Confidence.

More and better sex...

And I want to enjoy my food better because I'm eating GOOD food. Not crap.

I want time to work out, and think, and feel focussed on one thing, till it's done. AND GET IT DONE!

I think the goals might need some work, but it was a good vent anyway.

Thanks for listening ha!

Off to do some more research...

Scrampy

P.S. I just noticed, I write in dot points. hmmm... interesting.

just to clarify... I think I'd like to see weight loss and muscle definition quickly. I think the muscle growth would feel the best in the short term. Would help me feel as though I'm getting results fast.

Yeah, fast, powerful strength and size.

Then hard work, trimming/cutting style cardio n stuff.

Does that sound like a good approach?

Sounds good enough. There are plenty of programs out there. Just make sure you fully understand the program before you start it. If after reading, you don't have any questions about the program, then you probably don't understand it well or haven't put enough thought into it. I may be wrong, but that's typically what happens.

Rippetoe's Starting Strength is a good one...you might want to start there.

Ya man get your base lifts up (squats, deads, bench, military press). Rippetoe is the best way to do that for almost any beginner.

yep, I'm keen to get the main muscle groups moving and get the body to respond again.

the big movements, more body parts the better. means less time to do the same job!

Thanks for the encouragement.

I agree with IW and Ross, focus on the big lifts, keep your diet clean and hit some cardio. You should be able to get a good start going from no training or discipline to being consistent with the training. You will probs see some good newbie gains whilst shedding a bunch of fat if your diet is good.
Read up the diet stickies they are pretty good reads.
