Program Help - Cardio?

So I'm trying to get back into lifting again, disgusted with how out of shape I've gotten. Thinking about starting with the Rippetoe program since I'm trying to bulk and get a good base to work off of.

The question I have is how much cardio should I do per week? Couldn't find anything in the threads or stickies. I'm currently 215lbs and 6' 2" so I want to get percent body fat down eventually. I was thinking about doing two 30min sections, but don't want to kill my chance of getting the fast newbie muscle gains.

if you're really out of shape i wouldnt even bother with cardio right now. hitting the weights again will be enough to recover from.

He has a point. I would work into the rippetoe program and once you feel you've got your foot in the door there (aka not so sore you can't walk) then think about adding in some cardio.

You both make a good point, haven't started yet but I know I will be really sore since its been almost two years since I worked out.

Once I get going what would be your advice on cardio? What does everybody use as a guide line?

I would start off with only a light amount for about 5-10 min every other day for the first week. Then add 5 min per week until you feel you can up your intensity.
