Default Push ups?

Hi,

So I am pretty new to this. Before I started lifting, I used to only do push ups and running. That's pretty much how I lost a bunch of weight.

Now that I am lifting, I was wondering if it is still okay for me to still do push ups after a work out, before going to bed? Usually about 2 hour break in between.

Thanks,

Do pushups on bench press days. make it the last thing you do. do 4 sets with no rest between sets with diffrent variations. This really bombs my chest. oh and do each set to failure.
I guess you can do them on anyday really sense PU work all your muscles. I think ill start doing that now that i think about it.
Hope this helps you out.

Those last reps that are hard to pump out are what build your muscle. The rest is just a warmup. getting your muscles ready for what they are about to go through. Atleast thats what i believe. Seems to work for me.
It may not work for someone like it does me. Thats the thing about people. What works for one may not for another. But i believe this would work for all. Maybe im wrong i dunno. But give it a shot Ross.
your welcome rabman. Let me know how it works for you.

After I finish my warm up/weight acclimation, all of my reps will ultimately aid in building muscle. Not just the ones I have to struggle with. Training to near failure seems to have the same (or more) benefits compared to training to failure and is less detrimental to your recovery.

It's good that you have an open attitude and understand that what works for one person might not work as well for another. But the facts that constitute human physiology are still relevant.

My kids have some of those little yellow chairs laying around that I use to do pushups (although basketballs work, I am just to clumsy). I will place them shoulder width apart and do 10 pushups with one hand on each chair (that way you go real deep between them) then I take one hand off and put it on the floor while leaving the other hand on the chair and do ten more. I then switch hands (once again, one hand on the floor between the chairs and one hand on the chair) and do 10 more. That is one set (superset if I am correct?). I can normally do 3 sets but after that I am dead.

I elevate my feet so that they are even with the chairs.

im not saying that the warmup reps dont build muscle. I just believe those last few you struggle with are the main ones building the muscle. Plus putting the size on.
But ya im very open minded. why not be? Unless yourt afraid to learn. An part of life is to learn. Plus it shows class being open minded. As well as maturity.
And thats a big reason i love this board . everyone seems to be mature and has class. as well as a desire to learn.
Anyway i could go on and on.lol
Thanks for your input Ross. Its noted.

Depending on which exercise we are talking about, I am a big believer in the "failure sets". My other sets such as warm ups, advanced warm ups and high rep finishers all have thier place in my work out but my bread n butter is with the failure sets. Again this does not count for all exercises but it is the case for me on bench, shoulder press, leg press, all biceps to name a few.

So I agree with Dean but I also agree with Ross because there is always more than one way to skin a cat. Just depends on what yields results for you. At the end of the day if your bustin your ass, truly bustin your ass, good things will happen.
