Default Smoking and training

I have been smoking for a while now, i started when i was 15 and i want to quit. but how will it affect my workouts?

my old room mate quit and gained almost 35 lbs of fat in 2 months. i dont want that.

I have gone from a pack a day, to about 6 a day. not too long before i go cold turkey.

any input/suggestions would be appreciated.

Your old roommate started eating a lot more when he gained 35lbs. 35lbs in two months...wow. Simple solution: Don't eat everything in sight.

It should be beneficial to your workouts. Especially the strenuous ones. It will improve cardio performance. Good luck. The only thing stopping you is yourself. So get out of your way.

well im slowing down quite a bit, but it still doesnt say much.

o, and when i said 6 a day, i meant 6 total, not 6 packs.

Talking Here's my take...

Part of the enjoyment smokers get from smoking, (OK, this is going to sound gay... but stay with me), is the pleasure they get from having something in their mouth. It's called an oral fixation.

When they quit smoking, they still have this desire to put something in their mouth... so they eat more food to replace putting a cigarette in their mouth.

If you can replace the oral stimulation of a cigarette, with something like gum, a toothpick, hard candy, chewing on a pen... who cares... just replace it with something that isn't a lung-dart or something that will make you fat.

Anyway... that's my 2cents...

i was worried about it effecting my workouts. Esp. cardio, so i just quit one day, it's been over a month now, cold turkey. its pretty easy now too....unless im having a few drinks...which is the next nasty habit i need to do something about

Hope you give it up Zac, today is the first day in 20 years that i havnt smoked. I feel like smashing everyones head in but if i can do it then anyone can, and i know its been holding me back in the weights room.

Well, Im right there with you guys, I havent smoked in 4 days now, I cant tell if its getting any easier or not yet, there are still times, like right now where if they were in front of me you couldnt stop me from smoking probably 10 in a row.

im still working on it. i stopped, then started again. with family and work stress i think the might be impossible.

To stop smoking is a hard thing to do. Im working on it myself. I need ti stop cause A.it robs you of gains. B. Id like to get into local wrestling. C. My health.
I have tryed cold turkey but just cannot do it. It effects my nerves and i have enough problems with that my nerves.
Anyone have any suggestions for me?
