Squatting barefoot

I've been speaking to a few guys in the gym about squats and a few have suggested squatting barefoot. They claim it just 'feels' better and would even be better for my bad knees (patella tendonitis) although i'm not sure if it's a good idea to be squatting without my orthodics (i'm going to ask my physio her opinion). I've read quite a bit about it on the net and noticed even arny preferred it..
So does anyone here squat barefoot/tried it or have an opinion on it here?
Any responses much appreciated

Cheers

Carl:)

I've never tried it but I'd imagine it would allow you to feel where you were placing the weight more. This could help you to learn how to sit back into a squat and get the weight onto your heels and off your toes.

Definitely speak to your physio and/or doctor.

i couldn't tell you why but i prefer to do mine barefooted... my dead lifts too... my guess is using you orthodics to help keep a good arch in your foot would be better but to me it just feels more natural and feels like i have more control when im barefooted

Now that i think about it if you have orthodics for poor arches or if you have orthodics for scoliosis (sp?) of the spine then it seems to me it would be best to wear them... especially if it's the latter.

I have flat feet but never wear orthodics. I don't think flat feet keeps me from doing anything that people with normal feet can. I recently switched over to barefoot squats. My buddy reps out 495 on squats barefoot and i read a few articles about how it can strengthen ankles and tendons more so i gave it a go.
