That sounds like an awesome comp 1986, good luck with the training, and keep us posted.

strongman

Strongman competitions are between guys to see who can lift the most. This is from my knowledge, but you should check with the guy that invited you to get more info on what it is about. To train for this, just do sets that focus on strength gains not muscle gains which means low rep high weight sets, such as 5/5/3/3/1. When you deadlift, you use your legs to start the motion, so to make them stronger, do similar heavy squat sets. Figure out what your 1rm is, one rep maximum, so you can measure your progress as you train.

He already checked and posted the events.

As has been said Strongman has a more endurance component.

Not much experience with strongman type lifting.. But good luck with it man... I'm with these guys though, stay with complex lifts and higher rep ranges... I think daves overhead db farmers walk sounds like a winner too.. Get you used to working through your breaking point with out killing you... Really though just wanted to tell you good luck with it...

I may be wrong at this but i would think doing a lot of clean and presses would help.

thanks for the encouragement and all of the ideas, i'm planning on starting to implement some of them next week. today i just messed around in the gym and tried to simulate some of the events like the 60 second deadlift for reps and the one arm overhead press and by the end of the workout i was dead. it made me realize how shitty my conditioning has become and how much i am going to need to work on some higher rep work and maybe adding in some cardio work.

If nothing else, this competition will be motivation to get in much better shape. Just have fun with it and do your best! Good luck and tell us how it goes.
