I would not reccomend using a belt. What your going to be doing is de-training your abdominals and supportive structure. You could actually make yourself more prone to future hernias this way.

There is an interesting article on why not to use belts. If I can find it again I'll post a link here.

Listen to the others: take it slow and build up your stabilizing muscles. Remember, your abdominals, including your obliques, and your back muscles all work in concert to stabilize your body and help protect you from injury. Relying on an artificial support is not going to make those muscles stronger.
