Definately a good idea. I personally would alternate the 8's with Back squats and front squats (w/ heals on 10 lb plates.). I feel great doing this with the 5x5 I'm on. Once the weight gets heavier during the 5 RM meso, that's when I'd do the alternating between squats and deadlifts. Of course, on your deadlifting days you can't have barbell rows, ect.
I just made my brother's new schedule from his last cycle of weights, and I'm having him interchange between flat and incline dumbbells for his 12 rep mesocycle just for something different. I'm also having him switch between deads and A2G squatting for the 5's.
The only problem with going nuts using two
completely seperate programs is that it'll make it a lot harder accurately measuring the progressive loading from mesocycle to mesocycle. The only way that would work is if you only change one or two exercises and keep everything else the same.
