I used to think that way too until I came to the realization that 40 grams of dextrose immediately after my workout will not put a microfraction of fat on me. On paper I don't like the idea of drinking what is essentially sugar, but the only way it could possibly put fat on you is if you drink it just before you go to sleep, 7 days a week for an extended period of time.
Pre and postworkout is completely fine.
