While I agree with many of the ideas in that article, to me it smacks of hyper-analysis.
The idea that there is nothing "natural" about forcing your body to adapt by making energy expensive tissue makes may make sense on its surface, but the fact that the innate capacity to adapt in many different ways exists within each of us begs the question of whether the term natural is much broader than what the authors believe.
The body may fight like hell against coslty adapatations, but once those adaptations are made, I don't believe there is anything unnatural about them. As far as the desire to make such changes, I can only say that if it is unnatural than humans are the most unnatural beings on the planet. In cultures accross time, body modifications are the rule rather than the exception.
If bodybuilding seems extreme, then look at foot binding or neck lengthening, teeth filing...the list goes on and on.
