What distance do you plan on competing in? Short distance (100 m to 400 m) or middle distance (800- 1500m ) or longer distance (3000m - Steeple Chase)...?
I competed in highschool and university track and cross country for over 10 years. I was a middle distance and long distance runner!
At your age...to be honest...if you want to become faster than I would put the bulk of your focus into actuall run training. The majority of guys I competed with never touched weights throughout there careers and these were national level runners...
Weight training is more for the off season...
