There are also all kind of cool things you can do with half a barbell which would make 70 lbs more than enough if you've never done it before. A thing to look for is Landmine exercises. Actually Dave this is something I recommend you look into since it mimics throwing someone. This will give you a back (and core) workout like you've never had before.

And also you could take advantage of the time to do something like suitcase lifts (like a deadlift with the barbell to your side using one hand) to really strengthen the stabilizers (and train your grip).

Just throwing things out there. The sand bag idea is great too.
