Powercleans will give you some explosive strength and good size. It also provides some good cardio. I think powercleans are MORE of a upper body lift than deadlifts with the extra movement, catching the bar on your upper chest.
Deadlifts, however, you can go A LOT heavier on providing a greater stimulus for overall back/trap thickness. I would most definately use both. Three to four weeks with powercleans building up to a PR, then switch back to deadlifts. When you really start progressing with deadlifts, you can be sure your powercleans are stronger as well and visa versa.
