some one correct me if I'm a little off. But I believe shin splints are tiny fractures in your shins, usually caused by bad running form, or very over wieght people going to hard to fast. The shoes you wear can also effect this, if your landing flat foot when you run it can f your shins up something nasty, not to mention your knees and back.

how long can you run before you start to feel it?
