Beside what the others have said in terms of cholesterol and health is most likely up to the individual. Some people simply don't react very strongly to saturated fat and cholesterol in the diet. Whether dietary cholesterol is a big factor is still in debate. The fact is many people with high cholesterol will find little to no benefit in reducing sat fat and cholesterol in the diet. So that begs the question of how much a role this had in the first place.

Obviously it has some role. That has been demonstrated. But the extent of that role is different in different people. The only thing that can really tell you is getting checked. You are absolutely right in all the other things you point out about the yolk.
