How come you don't want to go the shake route? It's a great way to achive what your looking for.

If you don't want to drink your extra calories, if you can't seem to eat more, try eating different, higher calorie foods. Not saying junk food, but eat white rice instead of brown. white bread vs wheat, baked potato vs sweet etc...

That way you get the extra calories without eating more. If you keep your portions in check, you shouldn't gain that much fat either.
