If one is on a low carb diet but hasnt, for whatever reason, reached the state of ketosis with the limited amount of carbs they are eating, will there be a general lack of energy in workouts since the body is still running on carbs?
For many people, including myself, the first 5-10 days on a ketonic diet, be it CDK, TDK, UD2.0 ect are hell. You will be sluggish, your mind foggy, and it is extremely hard to get a good strong workout in. For your body to make the adjustment to ketones is a rough process, I would imagine if for some reason your carbs were on the border line, then you would be in a perpetual state of weakness/foggyness. I dont really see how this could happen unless you were attempting to do this to yourself. Either drop your carbs down, or up them so this doesnt happen.

It seems to me that a general low carb diet where ketosis hasnt been achieved would just lead to the cycle of carbs being used first for energy then protein, which would lead to mucscle wasting since the body has so little carbs
Without knowing numbers its hard to say. Some people can take in 100+ grams a day and still be in a ketonic state. Others just cant seem to go low enough. Regardless, if your running a ketonic diet, your protien needs to be very high to keep from finding yourself in a catabolic state. Just dont forget, if your protien and fats are too high your body will use and store those as fat too. So its nessisary to keep your numbers in check at all times.

If ya dropped a person in the middle of nowhere for example and said survive for a year, their diet would end up being high fat/protein from animals and low carb as they would only be available in season mostly
True, but if you dropped a person in the middle of nowhere, there goal would be survival. Survival is a much different goal then strength building, hypertrophy, or fat loss. Just remember you need to eat for your goals.
