What you want to do and what happens are 2 different things. I will go for my max but I may put on a weight and hit 10 reps on day and maybe only 6 another day depending on how I feel. Then I work my way up. Just adjust. You may need to do extra sets sometimes and sometimes you don't. Just push hard and get a good workout. If your crawling out of the gym puking you did good.
