^^ Your back should remain relatively vertical. You don't want to be folding over at the bottom of the movement and doing a goodmorning as you come up.

Is it a pain or a discomfort? If you're sure its pain then I would say take the time off...If it's a thing where your knees are just uncomfortable or fatigued then you might be alright to keep at it. Sometimes my knee acts up but its more of a discomfort. The way I describe it is "I'm more aware of my knee" since it isn't a pain and it isn't injured.
