BTW, all this point about approved medical procedures has nothing to do with ice treatment. The central point I am trying to make here is that just because something has been around a while doesn't mean we should dismiss it. A lot of times when something has stood the test of time there just may be a reason for it. The FDA does not oversee treatment options such as these. There is no government agency that approves treatment options such as ice therapy. For that matter your doctor is free to refer you to an acupuncturist or herbalist.

• safety of the nation's blood supply
• human tissue for transplantation
• allergenic materials and anti-toxins

Cosmetics:

• labeling
• adverse reactions
• alpha hydroxy acids

Drugs:

• product approvals
• OTC and prescription drug labeling
• drug manufacturing standards

Electronic Products:

• radiation safety performance standards for microwave ovens, cell phones, television receivers, diagnostic x-ray equipment, cabinet x-ray systems (such as baggage x-rays at airports), laser products, ultrasonic therapy equipment, mercury vapor lamps, and sunlamps
• accrediting and inspecting mammography facilities

Foods:

• labeling
• safety of all food products (except meat and poultry)
• bottled water
• infant formula

Medical Devices:

• premarket approval of new devices
• manufacturing and performance standards
• tracking reports of device malfunctioning and serious adverse reactions

Veterinary Products:

• livestock feeds
• pet foods
• veterinary drugs and devices
