I think in context with the whole book it's saying that you won't find salvation, not that God will literally stike you down...but that is certainly the interpretation some of the fire and brimstone preachers I grew up hearing would have liked

The whole book seems to be talking early christians (who were Jews) thinking that they were still subject to Jewish laws.
