Cool Muay Thai Sparring Team Tryouts

Well I made it. I didn't spar the pros I thought I was going to but it was an amazing learning experience. You really learn fast what you need to work on and what you thought works but doesn't do a damn thing.

I didn't get as banged up as I thought. I have no bruises but I'll tell you one thing, I will never take girls lightly in sparring class ever again. We first worked on just boxing and being able to weather the storm of punches if caught in a corner, example, I would be in the corner and get punched 5-9 times then I would pop up and punch 6 times then weather the storm again. The first person I did this sparring drill with was a girl that I thought was kinda tough but didn't realize how good she really was until she punched me square in the nose and shook me up. I mean this thing came out of nowhere. Talk about humbling. After a couple more hand drills we boxed for a round then kickboxed for about 3 rounds. I definitely need to work on my boxing but as for Thai boxing, I did alot better.

One funny incident, I was sparring this guy who was about 6'4" and had a longer reach than mine, I'm about 5'11". In the middle of sparring one of the coaches tells the guy to throw some kicks and kick me in the head. Well after the coach told him to do it 3 times I figured, Well, I'll kick him in the head. So I landed a nice kick and I said to the coach, "Like that right." Then coach said, "No, I wanted him to do it. But good job anyway." After that the guy got more focused and popped me a couple of times in the head. I guess I just caught him off guard and he didn't expect a shorter guy to be able to kick so high.

I had a great time and it felt good to learn on the fly and test myself. I can't weight till next Monday for more sparring.
