I don't remember reading anything about creatine and issues with dependancy. I've used creatine (both mono and CEE) sporatically throughout my training and I've never seen anything that even remotely resembles dependance.
As far as supplements go, first make sure your diet is in order. Even if you think your diet is good, it may be not be. Maybe you should post your diet (more specifically the macro breakdowns, protein fat and carbs)
Don't try and get fancy with supplements. A good whey pre and post combined with malto/dextrose works wonders. Creatine is also a good supplement to consider. Stay away from the NO-Xplods and the Nitro-tech Superpump shit (basically most supplements you see in the muscle mags).
Lately I've been using the Six-Star brand of protein and creatine. It seems to be working very well and the price is decent. Plus it tastes pretty good.
