Ideally you want to be absorbing protein all the time throughout the night. A regular shake before bed prob wont even last a couple hours and if you're sleeping for 8 it doesn't make much of an impact on the overall night. You'd almost have to take one before bed and halfway through the night. Prob even one when you wake up too. You're definitely fighting catabolism there but its a pain in the ass to do.
In the grand scheme of a day's macro nutrients, 24g of protein (before bed shake) should not make or break your diet.
