In comparison to to protein powders, whole foods are slower to digest. Your body has to do more in order to break it down than it would with a pp.
And I assume you're referring to tryptophan with the "turkey makes you sleepy" reference. Tryptophan is an amino acid. There's tryptophan in all forms of meats. And if you check the labels on your pp, it should be listed on there too.
Turkey getting all the hype over tryptophan is based on the fact that it has higher levels of that amino than most other meats.
The reason it makes you sleepy... tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin, the feel good chemical. And serotonin can be converted to melatonin, which is a chemical released in low light conditions that makes you tired.
