I'm no injury expert, but simply anecdotal evidence tells me this: I'm a 17-year-old wrestler whose right knee has been really banged up since I was 8 years old, and I still squat way below parallel with heavy weight and it doesn't bother me. So if you don't have any injury to speak of, you can squat - just make sure to go deep and use good form.
