It's not really fitting the bill of minimal overlap or opposing exercises. Bulgarians, depending on the stride can be heavily centered in the glutes and hams. The idea is not to obliterate the muscles involved. It's about fatigue management. When you get into the heavy lower body compounds you'd pretty much need to pair them with upper body stuff in this context.
