I'm a bigtime advocate of BCAA's preworkout/during working out. I only pay $18 for a pound of them, and they're much lighter on my stomach. I keep my whey postworkout onwards throughout the day (a scoop with every meal) and have had very good results.
It only boils down to what people prefer. Many choose Xtend instead of protein, others make due with a few scoops of whey. Just like the guys in the article.
