Default Who do I listen to?

Hi, y'all. I have an ultimatum: I want to get bigger (more than cut). I would like to get rid of about 20-30 lbs of fat. I am taking a weightlifting class at my college, where my coach has us do goal-specific exercises (big or cut), both using supersets. He has us do 8 reps and 3 sets. He discourages the use of isolation-type exercises, such as preacher curls and so on. Also, he says we should not do cardio too heavily-8-10 mins per workout, that the additional muscle will 'eat' the rest of the fat away. Then, I met this guy at Gold's, let's call him Gold. He is huge bodybuilding competitor! Gold is training me on non-school days. He suggests that I avoid heavy (training) weights, and do high-reps and low weights, and cardio until I get thin. Then, I should start bulking up. I have already started noticing results from the college program, but I don't want to lose the strength gains that I have made. Any ideas? TIA, John
