It depends. More info is needed.

What's your current macro breakdown (protein, fat, carbs)?
What are you getting from 'real food'? (meaning how much meat are you eating)
What are you getting from your other meals (protein, fat, carbs)?

There is a big difference depending on how you answer those questions.

If you're currently looking for 200 grams of protein and getting 50 grams from food (very small portions at meals) 4 shakes is excessive and you should increase your food intake.

If you're going for around 400 grams protein (around 4000+calorie range) and getting 300+ from your meals then the shakes aren't too bad. By the same token if you're eating so much, then cramming in a shake is easier than eating another chickenbreast.

My gut response is that you're not getting enough protein from food and you're not in the high calorie range so shakes are not a necessity for meeting your goals. You should eat more meals with protein.
